Sephardi Jews traveled with the Moors to Spain, and one of history's foremost rabbis, Maimonides, was among them. They share our genetic markers, texts, and beliefs, but differ from Ashkenazim in customs, or what Christians might call a "rite," with slightly different rulings on specific subjects such as whether we can eat rice during Passover. They're as Jewish as Ashkenazi Jews, Mizrahi Jews, Beta Israelim, and the other diaspora communities.
