What more do you think they could've done with Rico? They did enough with the "bent cop back for revenge" bit, IMO. Maybe you could keep him around as some sort of Hannibal Lecter-like character who Dredd visits in the Isocubes for advice, a dark reflection of Dredd. But we already have a dark reflection in the form of the Dark Judges.
