I'd have taken the ton over 2s here, to be honest. I think the score situation is extremely desperate. Why try to skip the dealer's turn quickly when there's no hope of overtaking him? I think it's okay to go slow for value here, and a dealer repeat only gives us more time to get a good hand. Even if the dealer pons ton later, perhaps he could ron shimocha instead.

I honestly don't know if I would have taken worthless penchan riichi here, when there's at least some hope of drawing haku ankou, but I'm glad that the simplest choice is correct.

I cut any dragon, which is definitely wrong. I think 6p is too valuable as floating tile to cut early when we have insufficient blocks, when all we need is speed. I'm guessing Owata cuts the sha pair as he already has the dora head, and only one tile left can complete that block.
The book already mentioned that depleted pairs are really bad. But I have a habit of keeping them for trap waits at tenpai, as all I want is tenpai fast as possible.
