It's a common theory that has zero evidence behind it that's kept alive due to the plothole that's never quite addressed as to how the fuck the bugs were able to nuke Buenos Aires. We know they're intelligent enough to pull it off, but we don't quite ever find out how they managed to shit out an asteroid out into orbit and with a collision course towards earth unimpeded.
