For it to have been a deliberate attack against earth, they would have needed to take the collision into account. It's plausible that the bugs could have made an attempt, but I still maintain that the collision with the battleship is the fly in the ointment. Small collisions in space can result in massive changes in final point of impact over stellar distances.

We saw evidence within the film that the faggot from Games and Theory was influencing his classmates with his gay mind powers. The battleship had made an unapproved deviation from its scheduled course. It can be argued that it is more plausible for Games and Theory to have manipulated the girl into plotting a deliberate collision with the asteroid to knock it onto a collision course with Earth than it is for the bugs to have deliberately made a trick shot off of a battleship that wasn't supposed to be there.

We don't know the limits of his powers, but he was depicted being able to subliminally guide Rico to Carmen despite not being nearby. He also may have implanted a subconscious suggestion within Carmen's mind to deviate the battleship towards an intercept point that Games and Theory had calculated ahead of time with a known asteroid.

It is a bit of a tenuous theory, but it's more solid than the bugs making a trick shot off of a ship that wasn't supposed to be there.

Based on what evidence? There isn't any in the movie so you're just grasping at straws using meta arguments while also forgetting the bugs do have ways to quickly traverse space as they not only settled on dantanna, but also attacked and destroyed zegima beach, which was well outside the arachnid quarantine zone (an area of space that consisted of more than just the klendathu system, also indicating the bugs ability to affect intersteller travel). You're also assuming that buenos aires, or just a city in general, was the intended target and not just "the earth itself". It just happening to land on the city our trio of main characters is from makes for a compelling motivation in terms of story writing.
