Rock wasn't Mr. Potential Man like half the KOF cast, his role in the game was always going to just be edgy chuuni "I must face myself" crap that wasn't going to lead anywhere interesting. The only reason people liked him was because Tonko is or was idk what happened with Preecha a good character design that made a perfect bishounen protag. Fatal Fury was already completely cooked the moment they tried to "next Gen" the cast. The blatant failure of being unable to make a character that was truly "unique" or "engaging" extends to being unable to make a game that's the same. It's as generic of a fighting game as you can get and that's the real reason it failed. SNK fans will forevermore now be saying "at least it wasn't X" because it could've gone much worse than it did, but it's not ambitious, and that's really what we have to deal with now. 3 years of an unambitious game that brings back characters who should've been brought back 10 years ago

Even KOFXV was more ambitious and it knows it's getting a sequel. CotW is a one-and-done
