I will tell you the tale of one of the Saints of the Velothi Temple. Saint Felms the Bold. Patron of Fishmongers and Butchers.

Back in the days before the First Council the Nords were unstoppable. Clad in Bright Steel and wielding the terrible power of The Voice they had never known defeat. They were riding high off the genocide of the Falmer and moving in every direction. Some went east and raided Saint Felms fishing village killing and destroying everything he knew. This broke Saint Felms in mind, but not in spirit. From then on he claimed he "heard the Voice of Almalexia in his head", and Almalexia told Saint Felms to kill. So Saint Felms began to kill. and kill, and kill.

He killed so many that news of his deeds got back to the real Almalexia and she rewarded him with a gleaming axe of masterwork quality. This was the extent of his panoply of war.
He killed so many that he realized he'd never seen one without a beard, and wondered what they looked like without them. So he scalped one and showed the trophy to the battlefield. Image related. In doing so: he cursed that Nord to enter Soverngarde with a face clad only in shame.
He killed so many that he learned the greatest Nord Warriors were called "Tongues". So he began to cut out Nord Tongues, and made himself a necklace.

Imagine if you will. An elf. Not clad in splendor, but in the dry-brown blood of old kills. Wearing nothing but a necklace of tongues. Wielding an axe brighter than any Nords. Not "Shouting", but SCREAMING-BLOODY-MURDER. Now imagine him sprinting straight at you. Saint Felms is a Saint because he was the very first thing on Nirn who learned how to beat a Nord.
You don't beat Nords by killing them. You beat Nords by FRIGHTENING them. And the Nords who went back west after seeing him did not call him an elf, because that thing was not an elf. That was a "Devil".

That is the story of Saint Felms the Bold. Patron of Fishmongers and Butchers. First of the Devils of Red Mountain.
