I FINALLY got the opportunity to print my Midna design for myself! Unfortunately I placed too much faith in auto-supports and quite a few parts failed (the head was partially misprinted but good enough for a first prototype) but it did show me both areas for improvement and things I'll carry forward to future designs.
The good:
>Articulation in general works well, at the risk of blowing my own trumpet the hips work astoundingly well.
>Sculpt is definitely nice in resin so that's cool.
>Even with prototype jank in mind she feels good to pose (mostly).
The bad:
>The waist joint needs redesigning, the walls on the sockets are too thin (one of the sockets did break whilst trying to disassemble her again) and there's a nasty gap between the two halves of her torso.
>The shoulders, knees and elbows are reliant on 1mm pins to work. It's kind of inevitable at this scale, sadly, and it's not a massive deal but it is worth noting, though I could change the shoulders for balljoints?
>I definitely need to make the pegholes a fraction wider. I fear they'll need drilling out a bit post-print regardless just 'cuz resin fluctuates in size at a microscopic level regardless of how well printed it is.
>As you might expect, she will need a stand as her head is a solid chunk of resin. I could hollow it out maybe?
As an aside, Tough 74 properly calibrated is insane. No powdering at all, holds detail well and even really thin parts are hard to break. Definitely need to get some TH-BJD (the fleshtone version).
