It is a reaping hook and a type of sickle / scythe. Compared to a scythe it is slower when mowing a given area. But it makes up for it by being more ergonomic which induces less fatigue and is effectively faster when harvesting grain because the technique preserves the orientation of the stalks and grains, making for a shorter overall processing time.
