It is going to be 3D. I think that'd be a better sell for the destruction stuff and also it gets more attention because everyone and their dog is making a 2D fighting game these days.
I am prototyping a 2D King of the Monsters-style game with pixel art though, not a traditional 2D fighter but more like one of those old wrestling arcade games or maybe a beat 'em up. I have the pixel art skills for it and I would just need to grind out a quick prototype, although it'd probably not go anywhere since I want to focus on one of my bigger projects first.
