I think you are giving the devs behind DE far too much credit.
Ideas that never materialized into anything are really not worth focusing on. You should be focusing on what we actually got and why things ended up the way they did.
The real story with DE seems to be the combination of Square constantly fucking with things and nobody left at DE giving a shit about LiS.
