If we were to move away from food and expand the questioning to the entire animal kingdom, that's when things get really interesting. Because nature is horrible. If animals are capable of experiencing suffering the way we do, then the natural world is a fucking constant nightmare for everyone involved. Are we to lock every single animal into a safe environment and just let them live out their days? You can't eliminate animal suffering any more than you can eliminate human suffering. People just wanna look for stuff to feel bad about, I guess.
