Nintendo would rather do everything in its power to KILL their only rivals than be forced to do better. Even if it would cause video game crash levels of copyright precedent, then EVER let Pokemon be reasonably challenged.
Nintendo will become the new Disney. They unironically said they have other "methods of engagement" for their IPs. They don't care about video games anymore. Sword/shield was the fanbase last chance to show them to do better. And it sold better than GOLD AND SILVER.
Pokemon will not get better. Nintendrones will make sure video games will no longer be needed for making money.
