What I hate most is the fact I was so attached to the gomu gomu no mi, which apparently never existed. Gear 5 is OK as a powerup besides that.

It's pretty impressive how Oda managed to keep the power scaling in One Piece somewhat consistent, for such a long running manga. The way Luffy fights hasn't fundamentally changed from chapter 1. Haki at least allowed Luffy to keep his gomu gomu fighting style intact.
