It's unironically correct with Souls games because they only got more generic and devoid of personality as time went on, they also lack all those random little details and mechanics that made you realise the developers actually cared about the game they were making
The reason dark souls 1 still has objectively the superior atmosphere and story (discounting sequeltrash retcons) is because it still had a shit ton of Demon's Souls in it's DNA
