tbdesu the only problem I really have is when a game only has lgbt+ and whatnot because of corpo pandering. It feels super insincere because you know those decisions got passed through a bunch of disinterested old dudes at a board room meeting.
If someone just wants to have more lgbt in their own work, then that's fine like you wanted more of something so you made your own thing. Even if it's cringe you made something at least SOMEWHAT transgressive by doing it your way.
I'm personally indifferent but I've found that the people who want to make "woke' stuff sincerely are less likely to preach to your face about it. Corporations that hire DEI firms are turbo preachy, like they assume all gamers are racist/sexist/etc and feel the need to insert a PSA level moral into their "representation". I guess in the end most minorities just want to exist like normal and not be bothered for being different, so they create fiction where they just exist normally. Corpos don't understand this and assume minorities need "equity" where they have to be uplifted or pedestalized, which is just overall uncomfortable for all sides.
