It's easier to defend homosexuality from a religious perspective than it is to defend it from a secular perspective. Secularism is grounded in physical utilitarianism, you can argue that homosexuality is wrong because they cannot breed and contribute to the greater human labor and gene pool. With religion however it's far more complicated, since with religion, this world is just a means to an end for getting to the afterlife, so realistically it shouldn't actually matter all too much if other people aren't breeding. Most clerics for example must serve a life of celibacy anyways. The only reason it's condemned from a religious perspective is, ironically enough, because of a passage in the Old Testament that is meant to describe Secular Jewish Law.
