People often say that atheism leads to nihilism, but I don't necesarilly agree with this. Not believing in a personal God or a specific religion does not necesarilly preclude any speculation of the metaphysical or some greater unknown purpose I think. But maybe I'm more of a soft atheist or Deist in this regard. I think what makes religion harmful is that it sets up your expectations for dissapointment because it teaches that the purpose of life is to serve God in hopes said God rewards you. I think it's much healthier that we mentally prepare ourselves for the idea that the purpose of life itself may simply be to enjoy the world for what it is, and that life itself is the reward. But I understand that this way of thinking may not be satisfying to a lot of people
