the non-schizo answer is that western governments are full of manic, hysterical old people who don't understand the internet and whose vision for society is either a big daycare or a strict unsympathetic backwards shithole. these people want nothing other than to regulate society and stop others from 'misbehaving' and doing 'offensive' things online. when conservatives get in power they ban porn, video games, and criticism of israel. when liberals get in power they ban sexy women from media, force you to use pronouns, and ban you for 'spreading misinfo' and being rude online. it's all the same shit. they don't regulate you necessarily because they're spiteful (though many are), they do it because they literally think they're in the right and they're making society more safe and welcoming
digital ID was always inevitable because 1) normies don't understand technology and don't value their privacy 2) intelligence agencies love the surveillance 3) the elites need a new way to control public narrative with the decline of MSM 4) they want to track your online activity so they can jail you if necessary and kill off 'wrong-speak'
they've been cracking down on the internet for years now. google is totally useless. youtube only shows you corporate news channels when you search for topics. with politicians obviously making the jump towards podcasts and youtubers expect these platforms to soon be locked down with regulations just like TV is. Wherever normies go they bring destruction, enshittification, and regulation because they can't cope with freedom and they see the internet only as a source of income
It's only going to get worse. Expect even more draconian regulations affecting your online activity and speech in the future. They won't stop until your legal ID is tied to every account and comment you make online.
