i kind of agree as far as a certain type of game that gets branded "indie" developed by western would be devs who just wanna make a game but lack any grasp of fundamental gameplay principles etc, and use lo fi retro aesthetics and uninspired punched up vapid dialogue as a lazy defense mechanism
however awesome games still come out all the time, often designed by people with connections to the crusty arcade era. but they usually don't get much hype
