For me it was the opposite. In the beginning I was more into the cards. Then with gen 3 I dropped the cards for magic and got more into the games. Then when gen 4 and the DS came out it made me agry that they had the second screen and touchscreen gimmick instead of more power and that gen 4 looked almost exactly like gen 3 and dropped the games too, bought a PSP instead. I only rediscovered gen 4 recently thanks to Legends Arceus and gen 9, which rekindled my love for pokemon. I never sold my GBA or the gen 3 games because I loved them. However I did sell almost all my pokemon cards collection back then to buy magic, unfortunately. If only I at least bought power 9 with it instead of packs kek.

Now I love gen 4 but I still think the double screen is stupid and completely unnecessary, a waste of resources. Either the console could have costed less or it could have had more power for the same price.
I don't understand why nintendofags praise these stupid gimmicks as if they are "innovation" instead of excuses to have you pay more for less. I say this while owning several DSs and the Switch, which is so cheaply made that is bent ouf of the box like a banana kek.

I recently bought the 4 DSs just for Pokemon, I only play that on them.
Last non-Pokemon game I played was Nine Sols. I still have to beat the bosses of the last two areas, damn I'm getting too old for that shit...
