Yes it was idealists with no plans just holding signs in the street, but the risk of the masses focusing their efforts and energy towards the class of people who print fake shares (dole foods, global links, Overstock, GameStop, many more etc) and steal wealth scared the powerful into instructing their media arms into mass gaslighting.
Peopling being rich isn’t bad, the wealth engine that followed the steam engine has been incredible for the species, but the mob didn’t magically disappear in the second half of the 20th century, they merged with U.S. intelligence, and the ones who refused went to jail. So now the corruption and cancer sits at the very core of all institutions and is basically impossible to root out at this point.
