if you go to google scholar and search "abiogenic polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons" you can find papers by the oil companies admitting its existence but they claim its an insignificant part of what they pump (because they pump the stuff near the surface that has dirt in it- therefore its biogenic, mmmkay)
