Nomura is a hack, always has been. He's been coasting by for 20+ years on shitty mysterious writing. Japanese get away with it like none other; look no further than Haruki Murakami or Kojima. They have solid ideas but their execution is always crude as fuck. They hide behind mystery because it covers their flaws. Contrast with someone like David Lynch who includes mystery because it enhances the story, but never scaffolds it.
