We didn't really, that election had the second lowest voter turnout in history (59% which was 10% lower than the previous election) and labour got less votes than in basically any election ever.
What happened was Nigel Farage started a new political party and split the conservative vote in half, letting labour absolutely crush everyone despite their pathetic turnout.
