>dehumanizing similar to putting a face-concealing helmet on a soldier
Only form the outside. If the tank crew is the good guys then they're inside, likely with faces exposed.
>Requires multiple crew, taking away the heroism
That's like say there's no heroism at the Battle of Thermopylae because there was 300 fighting together. You can still be heroic with 5 people.
>Heavy and clumsy, bowling over things in their way instead of gracefully moving around it
That would depend entirely on the environment, a tank duel over flat, sandy plains between two ultramodern tanks would be highly mobile.
>Associated with militarism and authoritarianism
So are soldiers, doesn't stop soldiers from being heroes.
>Cheap and disposable compared to mechs
Wouldn't this make their antics more suited for heroes and heroics? The underdog kinda angle.
>Whereas humanoid mechs are much more of a good guy vehicle.
Most mechs in games are used by enemies. Maybe not most in tabletop games due to balancing, but in media in general the good guys are almost always a minority compared to the bad guys they face.
Tanks are cool. I'm not willing to resign them to role of 'bad guy thing' at all.
