I'm glad you think so. The devil is in the details, but a game like that would really provide an interesting way to explore the things in the Metroid universe that people have come to like, in a natural way, as well as Samus herself a little.
You'd need some incentives like equipment of ship upgrades too, but I'd like to think you could evoke the feeling of doing things for their own sake by rewarding players with nice and cool things to see.
Reading these threads you'd think it would be enough to simply rewards players with scenes of Samus doing various things in the galaxy and in her hideout.
