Old content but let me see if I can define why nobody cares about these threads like the 2010s/why they're not effective at eliciting "nostalgia for what never was".
It's because millennials are the ones who held on to the notion that things should be a certain way based on upbringing. That they'll have the girl, the accolades, purpose and meaning. American society started coming apart at the seams starting probably in the 2000s post-9/11, but the illusion endured for longer.
Social isolation has become normalized, detachment and interacting via a screen normal, no third place, lack of tight social circle following you through life like in F.R.I.E.N.D.S hasn't been experienced by Zoomers. The fabric of what you're supposed to be as an American is clearly defined. A consumer, you're here to work a job you hate to fill the pockets of those who have too much, buying shit you don't need for temporary reprieve. They're just inured to it all and seek alternative fulfillment.

So while some may want you to see "cute, wholesome girl" to a degree we all know that everyone puts on airs on social media anyways, even though some of these clips predate say.... Instagram. It's a mask. A lie to keep you on the treadmill hoping for more than you can have. This isn't a conservative rant either, because honestly the whole marriage idea swore before God, held together by extended family and with a host of witnesses there to see that 'til death do us part' is upheld is actually the real lie. That's three measures taken to uphold something that is artificial and doesn't work anymore because there is no faith in that institution, how the world works today is more authentic. People chase value and do everything they can to minimize pain, they only really see themselves and what is relevant to them.
I think over the last few years, even the most naive, head-in-the-clouds optimist has had to confront that. It's just expected
