I'm sick of people bringing up the Sonic waterfall all the time. It's on screen in 1 stage for <1 second in normal play, and on a real CRT depending on what input you are using the blending effect is gone, so basically anything S-Video or better gets rid of the thing people suck off so hard.

There are a lot of reasons to use a CRT over modern displays, and a lot of reasons not to. What matters more is if you have the hardware to access the games you want to play. If you're okay with Emulation and want to add some filters to blend out some of the detail to make it look nicer <to you> that's fine go for it.

I still highly recommend people go out and actually get a CRT to play games with, just bare in mind that if you do you're very likely to end up with one that produces an image that looks like this because consumer sets were a gamble already back when they were new, and the decades of wear tear and time haven't helped them at all, and if you've spent the last 20 years looking at LCD screens that have perfect geometry and no over/underscan you are not going to be able to handle playing a 2D scrolling game on something like this.

I wonder why people aren't recreating CRT effects with horizontal/vertical linearity issues? Strange.
