Uma was actually pretty niche before the gacha game. It was a pretty overlooked anime carried by horse racing otaku in its own small niche fandom. A big chunk of the Touhou/Kantai fandoms had moved onto future gacha games like FGO/Azur Lane/Uma etc. Many of those previous artists draw for Uma/BA etc. now.
Gacha as a genre really fractured the Touhou fandom where it used to completely dominate everything else in the otaku sphere outside of seasonal anime.
