>still don't know what secure boot is. it never asked me about it. do new motherboards just come with that shit enabled.
In laymen's terms:

When you turn on your computer, first your motherboard loads (this is the bios)
Then, your motherboard reads your hard drive to boot your operating system (the OS, this is windows)
However, there's some software that loads between these two steps. As in, after the bios but before your OS.
Most of this software is legitimate, but some viruses and malware use this window because launching before your OS can make it so they're invisible to the OS. In the context of video games, you could install hacks that boot before your OS, and in that case, literally no anticheat can ever detect it preemptively.

Secure Boot makes it so NOTHING can boot before your OS. This helps a videogame's anticheat detect hacks better, because now nothing can hide from it outside of the OS.

>does secure boot hurt my computer?
If you have to ask, 100% no. You can leave it on forever and never notice.
>then why does anyone care
1% of posts have legitimate software that can't run with secure boot enabled, so switching it on and off to play one video game is annoying.
99% of posts care more about reliving the tortanic than having legitimate discussion. This is unfortunately modern /v/ culture and we can't go back. Expect to see this thread daily for the next decade.
