That's because they needed to boost the sales for the sequel outside of the premise because Mega Man's sales were going down the drain again and Sonic Archie wasn't doing so hot (correct me if I'm wrong comicfags). Which doesn't work because the concept was already done with the 1st crossover run and it was over-exaggerated fanservice. The marketing wasn't really that good either so you have more people fondly remembering Worlds Collide rather than Unite.
