Yes, I know. I said it was a great move.

The problem is that DMC3's movesets are, as you said, primarily designed with weapon switching in mind first. Stuff like Ice Age or Air Trick are great but they're not what the game is designed around. So the upgrade system makes sense because you're not supposed to hop on DMC3 and start using teleports or dodge moves all the time, they're there for extra flair. Meanwhile with DMC5 you can get Ice Age the moment you get King Cerberus and you have like half a dozen other dodge moves and shit like Hat Trick and Summoned Swords if you don't care to use Air Trick; same thing with Nero having Snatch, but also a but of approach moves and Bringer Knuckle.

I know it really doesn't sound like it but I'm actually defending DMC3 here. I'm not saying 5 good, 3 bad, they're just different games designed to do different things.
