where are you? in australia, atleast when i got mine, the test was "go down the road following the instructor" after doing a few basic stop/start tests in an empty parking lot. 2 days, like an hour each day at the course.
because of way the laws are set up there, getting a motorbike is quicker than getting a car and drivers license. to get a drivers license, you need to pass the first test, a driving test (plus a knowledge test on paper), then over the next year, mark down every place you drove from/to, road conditions, weather conditions, traffic conditions, the odometer start and stop reading, and accrue about 120 hours in this log book (a fully licensed sober driver must be in the car with you at all times).
then if you pass the second test, then you can drive a car ALONE (no more than 1 male occupant in the vehicle after 10 pm, no v8's unless exempted, and any moving violation whatsoever is an automatic loss of license for 3 months).

meanwhile the bike license is what i said above. 2 days, 2 tests, legal to ride.
