KanColle? It's a web browser game, you manage a fleet of moefied ships. The abyssal fleet are the enemies and their role is pretty minimal and vague, but something about them just makes them absolutely amazing in my eyes.
Thankfully they have some very passionate fanartists so at least I'm pretty happy with some of the fan output.
