And then who was the one to figure out Eggman's location, and create the perfect solution to Eggman's master plan? Oh yeah, that's right. TAILS. Complete with his own custom replica of a mystical jewel with ultimate power, which is the very thing that saved Sonic's life.
It's Tails who tracked down Sonic when Eggman announced that he had a weapon he'd use to conquer the world in three days. Even in '06, Tails is independent and takes action by himself regardless of whether Sonic is there or not. All throughout the Advance series and Battle, even in Shadow's game, that was the status quo. Tails was constantly trying to prove himself, overcome his fears, be the hero he wants to be, and do what only he can do. Even in Sonic Rivals 2, where he even had to fight a possessed version of Sonic by himself, and win.
