I don't think he should come back into the starting rotation until he builds his confidence back up. He looks extremely shaky on the mound and is prone to mental implosions similar to Dustin May.

I'm honestly 50:50 on this, he has a ton of upside and was a proven talent in the NPB, but his velo dropped off and that needs to be corrected
2022: 2.02 ERA in 129.1 innings
2023: 1.78 ERA in 91 innings
2024: 1.93 ERA in 102 innings
He was recommended to get TJ surgery (IN THE NPB), but he's been avoiding it for whatever reason and I suspect it's messing with his command. Every start he's had he's been all over the place. Giving up a shit ton of hard contact, wild pitches, and walks. Nobody in the majors is falling for his stuff.
If him returning to the bullpen doesn't fix him (it's extremely unlikely, he was one of the worst starters in the league), then Dave Roberts needs to have a serious heart-to-heart with him do everything they can to get him to admit he needs TJ surgery.
But yea, I think sending him down to AAA to figure his stuff out could be good if he fails once he's activated again. He's going to need to learn how to pitch around his fucked up UCL, which is seeming like an increasing impossibility.
