Bad endings are the result of the main writer not deciding ahead of time to have a logical endpoint for their story and also along the way trying to find ways to trick and surprise the audience. Its why in Media so many stories suck now. The writers are too busy trying to trick the audience with flashing bullshit and bells and whistles rather than telling a good story.
