The developer -> manager -> executive pipeline at Nintendo is also very unique in this regard, they don't allow you into the upper spheres there unless you actually fucking like video games and you have at least a little bit of number crunching experience, Furukawa came out of nowhere seemingly but he's still been with the company since 1994 and him becoming president was a very natural choice and something he's undoubtedly earned after Iwata's death
