It might (emphasis on 'might') be written by Akira Toriyama, more than 20 years later, drawn by other artists/studio and developed with far different sensibilities and ideas from before.

It's a different work. Especially when we're talking about a work like Dragon Ball where visuals mean A LOT. Hence it can easily be disregarded if you care about what "Dragon Ball" really is.
