7th Citadel is a straight upgrade.

>playtime is manageable as a result. play a scenario over 2-4 hours, log your progress, pack it away and continue whenever
>world is 100 times more alive due to the dialogue and scenario booklets
>persistent bonuses earned throughout the campaign, from exploration to side quests to base building
>retarded item combination system replaced by simple weight system

The only remote negatives are that the map is somewhat smaller (~10-20% if I had to guess) and that there is no real survival aspect. It's been reduced to the point that you cannot reliably replenish your cards, making each scenario more of a one-shot race against time.

Late pledges still available for the expansion+base content I believe.
