Kind of? It's mentioned in passing that the suits have a "teleport" function (activated by "communication cables"?) and a "life support" function, but how the fuck those even work isn't explained much. And both functions break before they can even be useful. Both suits only show up near the end of the ORAS arc, by that point every scene is rushed so a lot of things get glossed over in the speedrun.

Materials of the suits themselves aren't explained. But each suit gets 6 Key Stones glued onto them (guess someone thought this would help Fug mega evolve, since the Meteorite key item in the PokeSpe timeline no longer exists). And Sapphire also has the Jade/Green Orb (well the diamond shaped remaining shard of it) glued onto her Aqua suit, to help her communicate with Fug (which Ruby can't do, so only Sapphire gets the extra decor).
>What damage can they withstand? At which point are they shown to malfunction?
As you mentioned they have built-in intercoms (the communication cables I guess), which actually break when Deoxys appears. Visually the only broken things are the circle shapes on the fronts of the suits, which crack like glass. But the rest of the suits stay intact.
