I don't code games so I don't know which patterns are useful and which aren't. But since these code snippets are out of context it's impossible to tell if this is the concrete implementation hidden by an abstraction or if this is part of the flow of the game code. The only possible crime here is the magic numbers, but even that isn't really a huge issue if the example code is abstracted.

It's this. Introspection and empathy are very white, first world traits. As you import from a (literally) dog eat dog third world country your average citizen will stray from these ideals until decent people just flee and hide from the insane hordes, you can see this on the internet as well.
