The summertime greenery and bright skies do make the countryside look idyllic. It's when you interact with the people that you get a sense of how grim the year-round life is here for the average Joe.
Lots of strange odors in the older parts here, coming from factories and musty old buildings. I spent the first six years of my life in a small Polish immigrant town with an abandoned factory in New Jersey, so some of the smells induce a sense of nostalgia. But there's no way I would settle in here to the life of a small town loser with a dead-end job, a basic apartment and a couple drinking buddies to bullshit with.
Pretty girls everywhere on a warm day showing off their belly buttons. Many more than in America. The drunkard losers here seem impotent and uninterested in women, so the girls don't stay indoors fearful of rapey creeps like they do in America. It's hard not to stare like a lustful pajeet, desu.
Old women rule the roost. Polish businesswomen use the slightest pretext to get annoyed and scold me. It gets tiresome dealing with such sour people. Which is the point, I guess. They hope you go away and don't come back. Might as well put a sign up that says "The Customer Is Always Wrong".
