>Out hiking alone, day 3/6 in backcountry. About 40km from trailhead. Autumn, 2019.
>Wake up to something at first light walking by not too far away, it's a quadruped of some weight. Uh oh.jpg
>Get up quietly, grab knife (no guns since it's a provincial park).
>It approached my food bag hanging.
>Cursing myself for being lazy and having it so close.
>Hear a whine from a canine. "Ah it's just coyote, I'll scare him off"
>Unzip tent and see a fucking golden retreiver.
>He's such a good boy and just looks me, I do a double take and observe him.
>I am dumbfounded standing there naked (I just like it like that).
>Looks to be nothing wrong other than his mangled fur and an emaciated frame. Collar says "Clover".
>Give him food and love, he wasn't even apprehensive to my presence.
>Turn back with him, he did great. Got back in two days.
>Get to rangers hut and explain the situation. They inform me a couple lost him while canoeing 2 months back.
>Rangers radio in to the station and I'm on my way in my car.
>Base station calls a vet and the couple when I get there. Get to town ane they're waiting for me at the vet.
>Woman is bawling her eyes out and thanking me, man asking me how I found Clover and other info.
>Gives me a firm handshake and $200.
>Guess it was worth it to come back early.
God I wish I had a phone with me to take some pictures with him. I prefer to keep electronics in my car when I go out. Never really stopped driving so I never had the chance. Wonder if he's still around.
