Despite being on the weakest hardware it honestly feels the most ambitious in terms of scope. The more open exploration of the town was something I missed in later entries, it's downsized in SH2 and near nonexistent in SH3. The art design of the Otherworld and the low poly of the PS1 also just feel like a match made in hell, they compliment each other so well into what I think is among the best art direction in all of gaming. I feel like the themeing in SH1 is also highly underrated, I love the idea of the enemies being a child's fears twisted by the town's power and how the puzzles feel like something a child would think up.

I generally enjoy low poly in general but in regards to Silent Hill I think it absolutely plays a major role toward the game's atmosphere. With horror specifically I think low poly offers a nice middle ground in which the player can take in a full 3d space but the quality is low enough that they can't always immediately grasp just what they are looking at like later 3d allows.
