I suspect this is why the suits are losing interest in DnD other than movie/vidya rights and the corny collectibles.

It's too easy to pirate or share the books among multiple players, miniatures are optional and there's tons of manufacturers, the fanbase is violently resistant to attempts to monetize the OGL or incorporate subscription services, etc.
