Also Japan didn't give a damn about Zelda series for years until BoTW came along; who gives a fuck about what they think. They aren't the prime target audience, that's the west and it always will be. And Japanese women love hot white men, so he'll still be white regardless.

The problem is that Zelda's fans and consumers generally stray in the older tween-to-adult range. It's not the kind of IP that your average 6-12 year old, ADHD-ridden kid is innately invested in. And thanks to kids having absolutely dogshit standards, those other game adaptations were able to get away with being typical corporate garbage. Zelda, less so. I'm sure the first movie will do well regardless, but if they want to establish a successful trilogy, let alone a successful cinematic universe in an era of streaming services making movie theaters obsolete, they'll actually have to try a little bit more with this one. I'm still expecting something incredibly safe, forgettable, cringey and bland regardless.
