I want this to be an ocarina of time inspired movie so bad. My biggest fear and prediction is we’ll be getting a breath of the wild inspired movie tho. Link will wear his boring new redesigned blue clothes and no hat. Nintendo are hands-on with this new venture into filmmaking and are highly protective of their properties, too much so at times (see their stances on fan games and emulation). They want these films to succeed, and thus they are playing it safe, both as films and as adaptations. The Mario film used a reliable animation studio for putting out hit films at a reasonable budget, it used familiar big names for the cast, it stuck to a simple familiar animated film formula, and was very faithful to the Super Mario Bros video games, both visually and tonally. The result was a big success.

Legend of Zelda will be the same in terms of making a reliable safe film that sticks closely to the style of the video games. There are some additional parameters due to it being live action, namely that it can't just cast major Hollywood names as everyone, now at minimum Link and Zelda are likely to be unknown actors in their teens, and while some big names will no doubt be in the supporting role, they'll have to be matched by more than just a voice. It will also not be able to do the semi-irreverent tone of post-Shrek animated films (though Mario was played more straight than people expected, they still did a few typical things like including standard famous rock or pop songs in scenes), both because it's live action and because it would go against the high fantasy tone. So while it won't be dark and gritty, expect it to be played as a more straightforward fantasy flick than a comedy.

Fittingly, the tone of Legend (1985) is what they ought to go for. In any case, if you're expecting black Zelda and Indian Link, you are a fool. Nintendo will want them to be faithful to the video games, to avoid divisive elements and ensure the greatest chance of succeeding. Not the anon you replied to, but they already fucked it up by hiring Avi Arad as the lead producer and Derek Connolly as the lead screenwriter. And this isn't a Mario, Minecraft or Sonic scenario where they can just rely on kids and by extension, general family audiences to retain legs or huge box office numbers. In the games links skintone and features has been getting more and more Japanese, so a mixed race European and Oriental actor is a strong possibility if they are casting a fairly unknown actor for the role.

The problem is that Zelda's fans and consumers generally stray in the older tween-to-adult range. It's not the kind of IP that your average 6-12 year old, ADHD-ridden kid is innately invested in. Pick one and one only, because the the other will likely ruin your experience with whichever one you managed to beat first. If you play BoTW first, then ToTK will feel like an over-glorified asset flip DLC. If you play ToTK first, BoTW will feel like a barebones tech demo.
