That's not to say we haven't tried to replicate some of that heavenly brilliance. Through glass, and steam, and wire, and electricity do our own crude mockeries of the stars above glow, some of which have even being cast in our image. For we are gods of our own making, and what self-respecting deities wouldn't want to indulge in a little ego-padding from time to time?
It's all fake, of course. Not even lonely souls would find much solace in being stared-down by a giant hologram, even more hollow and ephemeral than our usual existence in this living hell of a city. But being up here, near the highest of balconies, away from all the rot and ruin and woeful misery... It's nice. For what it is.
Savor these rare scraps of positivity as they come, you'll need to ration them out as the week marches on.
